Privacy Policy

Who we are

gurgli.com is operated by Chris Denison, trading as Gurgli ("Gurgli", "we", "us"), of 57 Hollow Wood, Olney, Buckinghamshire. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Email: contact@gurgli.com.

What we collect

When you sign up on gurgli.com, we collect:

That is the whole list. We do not collect your surname, your address, your date of birth, or anything about your health. Nothing on gurgli.com asks you about your reflux.

To protect the form from automated abuse, we also keep a scrambled (hashed) record of the internet connection a sign-up or a confirmation came from. It holds only the times of recent sign-ups or confirmations from that connection; entries more than an hour old are disregarded and discarded. It cannot be turned back into an address and is never stored with your email.

Your email address is the only thing you must give us to sign up. If you do not provide it, you cannot sign up.

You are on the list once you open the link in the email we send you. Until then your address is held as unconfirmed, and we send nothing more to it.

How we use it, and our legal basis

We do not make any decision about you by automated means.

Personal data and anonymised data

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own purposes. Your email address goes to no one.

Gurgli will be funded in part by licensing anonymised, aggregated data: what groups of members tried and what happened, in numbers that cannot identify anyone. We say so here so that nobody who joins is surprised by it later. Nothing collected on gurgli.com is health data, and nothing collected on gurgli.com forms part of any licensed dataset. When membership opens, the member privacy policy sets out how that anonymisation is done and the standard it meets.

Advertising and tracking

We may advertise Gurgli on other sites and services. If you arrive from one of those advertisements, the link carries a label saying which one, and that label is the only thing we learn. The advertising platforms receive nothing from gurgli.com: there is no pixel, no tag and no conversion tracking on this site.

gurgli.com itself shows no advertising and uses no analytics.

Third-party services

We use one third-party service to run gurgli.com:

Who can see it

Cookies

None. gurgli.com sets no cookies at all: no login cookie, no tracking cookies, no analytics cookies, no third-party cookies. If you arrive from a link with a tag on the end, the page reads that tag once and sends it with your sign-up. Nothing is stored in your browser.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, email us at contact@gurgli.com. We respond within one month.

Your choices

Data retention

We keep your sign-up until you unsubscribe, or until Gurgli opens and you become a member, at which point the member privacy policy takes over. If Gurgli has not opened within twelve months of your sign-up, we delete it. Entries in the hashed connection record are disregarded and discarded once they are more than an hour old.

Data storage and security

Your sign-up is stored on our web space in a folder that cannot be reached from the public internet. All traffic to gurgli.com is encrypted. Every write to the list is locked so that two sign-ups arriving at once cannot corrupt it. The form rejects malformed addresses and limits how many sign-ups one connection can make in an hour.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will let you know by email before they take effect. The "last updated" date at the top tells you when it was last revised.
