Gurgli Keep me in the loop

Acid reflux…
Stop guessing.

You’ve tried the pillow, the ginger, the smaller dinners, the thing your friend swears by. There’s always one more thing to try. And you still don’t know what works best for you. Gurgli finds what really works for you, from people going through what you’re going through.

Be one of the first to find out.
Gurgli opens in November.

Sound familiar?

Everyone tells you what to try.
Nobody helps you find out what works.

Wedge pillow ? Apple cider vinegar ? Less coffee ? Smaller dinners ? Ginger tea ? Probiotics ? Nothing after 7pm ? Slippery elm ? Cut out tomatoes ? Chew more slowly ? That £40 powder ? Alkaline water ? Chamomile ? Lose half a stone ? DGL capsules ?

The thread with four hundred replies

Everyone in it is certain. None of them agree. You close it knowing exactly as much as when you opened it.

‘Some people find’

The internet is full of what worked for someone. It has never once told you what worked for someone going through what you’re going through.

Somebody is always selling

Behind most of the advice is a bottle, a powder, a tea, a course or a commission. Behind Gurgli, nothing but the truth. Nobody pays us to promote anything.

How Gurgli works

Twenty of you. Same symptoms. Testing one method. Together.

You are one of a group of twenty people, all with matching Gurgli Reflux Profiles. Same triggers, same habits, same list of things already tried, same kind of days. Each group, we call a bubble. In your bubble, you all try one method, take a minute each day to say how it went, the rest of your bubble right there with you. When your bubble closes, your own result comes to you first, and stays yours. Only the bubble’s overall result, what the twenty of you found together, goes out to the whole Gurgli community.

You’re anonymous from the moment you join.

In your bubble you go by your Gurgli identity, a name you choose when you join. That’s all anyone ever sees. Your real name stays on your own screens, your notes stay yours, and the results go out as your group, never as you.

In a bubble

It begins in a bubble.

Everything that helps your acid reflux starts here. You and nineteen other members of the Gurgli community, with matching Gurgli Reflux Profiles, testing one method together. You won’t know anyone in your bubble, and it won’t matter: everyone here is living exactly what you’re living, and after the same thing you are. Better days, and something that works. Something you can trust. So, you’re all in it together. Your check-ins, your bubble, and when it closes, your own result, yours alone. This is what it looks like from inside a bubble. In the worked example below, the ginger tea bubble.

Go to your bubble

Hi Sam, welcome back to the ginger tea bubble.

What your bubble is saying

Nearly everyone’s keeping up with the tea. Eating out is when people forget. Set an alarm, says the bubble. A few say their evenings already feel easier. Others, nothing yet. Early days.

You said: ‘Nights are calmer. Not perfect, but calmer.’

Was it the tea

9 of the 14 who finished improved too.

Are you typical

2 of your 3 twins improved. You’re the rule, not the exception.

Twins: the three in this bubble whose Gurgli Reflux Profile sits closest to yours.

Why it missed, for the others

The 5 it didn’t help managed two to four cups a week. The 9 it helped managed five or more. Most of the missed cups fell on late nights and nights out: eating out was tapped on twice as many of those days.

What your 84 days showed

Bad days

Worst days: Fridays and Saturdays. On eight of your eleven bad days you’d tapped ‘ate out’.

Triggers, re-scored

Late meals: a bad day 9 times out of 11. Alcohol: no pattern in 84 days.

When it kicked in

Most who improved felt it by week 3. You felt it in week 5.

If you stop

People like you who stopped lost it within three weeks. People who kept one cup a night held on.

Tips from your bubble

From the conversation: 6 said dinner by seven helped, 4 set an evening tea alarm, 3 used two tea bags.

What to do now

Twenty of you went through this together. Twelve want to carry on. Say yes and you can still talk to them through Gurgli, any time, about anything.

I’m Chris, the founder of Gurgli. I wanted Gurgli to work for everyone. So I built it to cost as little as possible to run, and that came out almost exactly the cost of one prescription. That I couldn’t ignore. So I set the price of a year’s membership of the Gurgli community at £9.90, and I’ll do everything I can to keep it there.

If you’re on reflux medication

Gurgli fits around what you already do.

Most Gurgli members take some form of prescription medicine to help their reflux, and in some cases have done so for years. Gurgli bubbles only ever test non-prescription methods.

If you’re on reflux medication and want to reduce it or come off it, have that conversation with your GP.

You will be encouraged to know that NICE, the body that writes the guidance GPs follow, asks GPs to review long-term reflux medication every year and, where it’s right for you, to reduce it. So your conversation should be a welcome one.

Always consult your GP before making changes to your medication.

NICE clinical guideline CG184, dyspepsia and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, current guidance.

Chris Denison, founder

Who’s behind it

It started as my heartburn. It became everyone’s Gurgli.

I’m Chris. A few months ago it dawned on me that I’d been taking medication for my reflux for twenty-five years. That’s a quarter of a century! That realisation stopped me in my tracks.

So I did what anyone would. I began to look into coming off the medication. And the moment I typed the question, ‘how to come off reflux medication’, the internet lit up. A dozen methods here, a few powders there, a screenful of teas, programmes, exercises. Every one confident that it had the answer, and of course, every one available to buy.

I spent hours reading the comments. ‘Works for me.’ ‘Did it actually do anything for you?’ ‘Has anyone stuck with it long enough to know?’ Hundreds of people, all asking the same thing, and not one of them knew the answer.

That was the moment. Twenty-five years of my own confusion, a whole internet of people just as lost, and nobody, anywhere, actually knowing the truth.

Developing ideas into something that lives is what I have always done. So I built Gurgli, the thing that was missing from my life, and perhaps from the lives of others.
